Milan Zver biografija
Formalna izobrazba
Rodil sem se 25. maja 1962 v Ljubljani.
Osnovno šolo sem obiskoval v Destrniku, gimnazijo pa na Ptuju. Leta 1982 sem se vpisal na Fakulteto za sociologijo, politične vede in novinarstvo na ljubljanski univerzi. Diplomiral sem leta 1987 in se kot mladi raziskovalec zaposlil na isti fakulteti ter vpisal magistrski študij. Leta 1989 sem tri mesece pod mentorstvom prof. Horsta Haselsteinerja raziskoval zgodovino politične misli na Karl-Franzens Universität v Gradcu v Avstriji. Tu je nastal tudi večji del moje magistrske naloge, ki sem jo uspešno zagovarjal leta 1990. Do leta 1992 sem bil na Fakulteti za družbene vede kot raziskovalec in asistent za področje zgodovine politične misli. Leta 1998 sem zagovoril doktorsko tezo na isti fakulteti. Junija 1999 sem bil habilitiran kot visokošolski učitelj za področje družboslovja. Tega leta sem postal predavatelj in nosilec predmeta sociologija na visokošolskem in univerzitetnem programu na Ekonomsko-poslovni fakulteti Univerze v Mariboru. Ta program sem nekaj časa izvajal tudi na ljubljanski Fakulteti za policijsko-varnostne vede, ki je sicer članica Univerze v Mariboru.
Bibliografija
Sem avtor večih knjig. Med drugim sem leta 2002 sem izdal znanstveno monografijo Demokracija - v klasični slovenski politični misli, leta 1996 pa dve strokovni monografiji: In dan bo sijal in Sto let socialdemokracije. Objavil sem tudi veliko izvirnih znanstvenih člankov v domačih in tujih revijah in zbornikih. Leta 1988 sem uredil zbornik referatov in razprav Človekove pravice in svoboščine v tranziciji: primer Slovenija. Uredil sem tudi zbornik Pučnikova znanstvena in politična misel, ki je izšel leta 2004. Leta 2009 sem napisal knjigo Dvajset let pomladi SDS, ki je pod okriljem politične skupine Evropske ljudske stranke v Evropskem parlamentu izšla tudi v angleškem jeziku z naslovom SDS: From the Edge to the Triumph in the European Election: History of the Slovenian Democratic Party. Ob dvajsetletnici samostojne slovenske države sem v knjigi z naslovom Dvajset let samostojne Slovenije/Twenty Years of Independent Slovenia zbral in uredil prispevke najpomembnejših akterjev prelomnih dogodkov leta 1991.

Vsa leta sem dejaven v strokovnem, družbenem in političnem življenju. Na lokalni ravni sem član prosvetnega društva Destrnik, ustanovitelj športnega društva Urban, član šahovskega kluba Urban (igramo v tretji državni ligi), bil sem ustanovitelj Društva Ivan Cankar in član upravnega odbora humanitarne organizacije Vrtnica itd. Sem tudi član sveta Zbora za republiko in glavnega odbora Združenja za vrednote slovenske osamosvojitve. Tudi sicer sem na humanitarnem polju dejaven kot posameznik, saj dajem štipendijo, botrstvo, šolnino, socialno pomoč in drugo.
Slovenska demokratska stranka
Sem podpredsednik Slovenske demokratske stranke in vodja Odbora za izobraževanje, znanost in šport. Poklicno politično pot sem začel leta 1992, ko sem se zaposlil na Vladi RS pri njenem podpredsedniku dr. Jožetu Pučniku. Od leta 1994 do leta 1999 sem bil zaposlen na Mestni občini Ljubljana, večino časa kot sekretar Mestnega sveta, nato pa nekaj mesecev kot strokovni sodelavec v Državnem zboru RS. Nato sem bil mestni in državni svetnik, od leta 2004 do 2008 pa sem bil minister za šolstvo in šport v vladi Janeza Janše. V času slovenskega predsedovanja Evropski uniji v prvi polovici leta 2008 sem vodil Evropski svet za izobraževanje, mladino in šport.
Evropski parlament, prvi mandat 2009 – 2014
Na evropskih volitvah junija 2009 sem bil izvoljen za evropskega poslanca. Od 2009 do 2014 sem vodil slovensko delegacijo Evropske ljudske stranke v Evropskem parlamentu in bil član parlamentarnega odbora za izobraževanje, kulturo, šport in mladino ter nadomestni član v parlamentarnem odboru za kmetijstvo. Bil sem tudi član delegacij za Makedonijo in Kitajsko.
Deloval sem v vrsti drugih delovnih telesih, kot sta Skupina za spravo evropskih zgodovin ter Skupina za manjšine. Bil sem član odbora svetnikov praške Evropske platforme spomina in vesti, glavnega odbora berlinskega furuma Dialog-Kultur-Europa. Še vedno pa sem dejaven tudi v aktivnostih KAS (Konrad Adernauer Stiftung) in IRI (International Republican Institute).
Evropski parlament, drugi mandat 2014 – 2019
Leta 2014 sem bil ponovno izvoljen v Evropski parlament. Ostal sem član odbora za kulturo in izobraževanje in se pridružil delegaciji za odnose z Združenimi državami Amerike. Postal sem nadomestni član odbora za regionalni razvoj in delegacije pri parlamentarnem odboru EU-Črna gora. Od leta 2015 dalje sem stalni poročevalec Evropskega parlamenta za Erasmus+, program Evropske unije za mlade, izobraževanje in usposabljanje ter šport.
Evropski parlament, tretji mandat 2019 – 2024
Leta 2019 sem bil ponovno izvoljen v Evropski parlament kot član Evropske ljudske stranke. Tudi v tem mandatu ostajam član odbora za kulturo in izobraževanje in sem nadomestni član odbora za zunanje zadeve. V čast mi je, da sem podpredsednik delegacije za odnose z državami južne Azije, pridružil pa sem se tudi delegaciji za odnose z državami Srednje Amerike in delegaciji pri Evro-latinskoameriški parlamentarni skupščini. Tudi v tem mandatu ostajam glavni pogajalec Evropskega parlamenta za Erasmus+ program. V okviru odbora za zunanje zadeve pa sem bil v letu 2020 imenovan tudi za stalnega poročevalca za Skrbniški sklad Evropske unije.

Sem poročen, oče dveh hčera in dedek dveh vnukov in vnukinje. V prostem času rad poslušam glasbo, igram tenis in šah. Sem pa tudi ljubitelj nogometa, košarke in smučanja. Z veseljem tudi kuham, poprimem za delo okoli hiše in preživljam čas z družino.

Milan Zver biography
Formal education
I was born on 25th May 1962 in Ljubljana.
I attended Destrnik elementary school and gymnasium in Ptuj. In 1982 I enrolled in the Faculty of Sociology, Political Science and Journalism at the University of Ljubljana. After graduation in 1987, I started my work as a junior researcher at the same Faculty and enrolled in post-graduate studies. In 1989 I spent three months researching the history of political thought under the mentorship of prof. Horst Haselsteiner at the Karl Franzens University in Graz, Austria. At that time I compiled the greater part of my master's thesis, which I successfully defended in 1990. Until 1992 I worked as a researcher and assistant in the field of the history of political thought at the Faculty of Social Sciences. In 1998 I successfully defended my doctoral thesis and was habilitated as a university professor of social sciences in June of 1999. The same year I became a head lecturer of the Sociology class at the higher education and university program of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Maribor. I had also lectured Sociology at the Faculty of Criminal Justice in Ljubljana, a member of the University of Maribor.
Bibliography
I am the author of several books. I have published a scientific monograph Democracy in the Classic Slovenian Political Thought (2002), and two monographs titled And the Day Will Shine and A Hundred Years of Social Democracy (both 1996). I am the author of many original scientific articles, published in national and international journals and anthologies. In 1988 I edited a compilation of scientific papers and discussions entitled Human Rights and Freedoms in Transition: Slovenian case. In addition, I edited the proceedings The Scientific and Political Thought of Jože Pučnik, published in 2004. In 2009 I wrote a book SDS: From the Edge to the Triumph in the European Election: History of the Slovenian Democratic Party published under the aegis of the European People's Party group in the European parliament. At the 20th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence I edited a book entitled Twenty Years of Independent Slovenia, containing contributions from the most important actors of the milestone events from 1991.

I am active in the professional, social and political life. At the local level I am a member of the Destrnik Education Society, founder of the Sports Club Urban and member of the Chess Club Urban (member of the 3rd national league). I was the founder of the Ivan Cankar Society and am a board member of the humanitarian organization Vrtnica (Rose). I am also a member of the Council of the Assembly of the Republic and a member of the central committee of the Association for the values of Slovenian independence. Otherwise I am active in the humanitarian field as an individual, by giving scholarship, sponsorships, social support, and more.
Slovenian Democratic Party
I am a Vice-President of the Slovenian Democratic Party where I am the chair of the Education, Science and Sport Committee within the Expert Council. My career as a politician began in 1992 when I became the head of cabinet of Dr. Jože Pučnik, Vice-President of the Government of Slovenia. During that time I was also an advisor to the Slovenian Government. From 1994 to 1999 I was employed by the Municipality of Ljubljana, at first as the City Council Secretary, and for several months as an associate of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. After that I became the councilor at the municipal and state levels. From 2004 to 2008 I was appointed Minister of Education and Sports in Janez Janša's government. In 2008, during the Slovenian Presidency of the European Union I led the European Council for Education, Youth, Culture and Sport.
2009 – 2014 First mandate as MEP
At the European elections in June 2009 I was elected as Member of the European Parliament for the first time. From 2009 to 2014 I was the head of the Slovenian Delegation of the European People's Party in the European Parliament and member of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Education as well as a substitute member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture. I was a member of the Delegation to Macedonia and China.
I was involved in several other working groups such as the Reconciliation of European Histories Group and in the Group for Minorities. I was a member of Prague's Platform of European Memory and Conscience and a member of the Central Committee of Berlin's forum Dialog-Kultur-Europa. I am still actively involved in activities of KAS (Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung) and IRI (International Republican Institute).
2014 – 2019 Second Mandate as MEP
In May 2014 I was re-elected as a Member of the European parliament. I remained a member of the Committee on Culture and Education, and joined a Delegation for relations with the United States. I held substitute member positions in Committee on Regional Development and Delegation to the EU-Montenegro SAPC. Since 2015 I am a standing rapporteur of the European Parliament for the Erasmus+, European Union programme for youth, education, mobility and sports.
2019 – 2024 Third Mandate as MEP
In 2019, I was re-elected to the European Parliament as a member of the European People's Party. Also in this term, I remain a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and I am a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. I am honoured to be Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia, and I have also joined the delegation for relations with the countries of Central America and the delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. During this term, I remain the European Parliament's chief negotiator for Erasmus+ program. In the Committee on Foreign Affairs, I was appointed in 2020 as Standing Rapporteur for the European Union Trust Fund.

I am married, a father of two daughters, a grandfather of two grandsons and one granddaughter. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, playing tennis and the game of chess. I am a fan of football, basketball and skiing, I enjoy cooking, working around the house and spending time with my family.
